On my way to a photo shoot for a new video marketing company called Clip Gurus my bus got blocked by a group of protesters. Led by Richard Boyd Barrett, the protesters refused to let the bus drive down its route. A standoff began between the group of mainly elderely protesters and the double decker 46a. The protesters voices were heard load and clear as they heckled the bus.
Eventually the bus gave in and drove down a route through Monkstown Farm, a round of applause from the protesters trailed in the wind behind us. Getting off the bus at Baker's Corner I had a chat with the driver. Although he didn't support their action, he understood why they were angry. There is a large elderly population that live in Monksown Farm and Dublin Bus had just stopped the 46a from travelling through the area. For many of the elderly population the 46a is how they commute to Dun Laoghaire. The route is long established and to remove the route would isolate an already vunreable section of society.
I eventually got to the photo shoot, with some unexpected photos and an interesting story to tell.
